Indonesian meat and coconut patties.


half pound of lean steak mince

half a coconut grated, or 4 oz desiccated coconut, moistened in a little milk

1 crushed clove of garlic

half teaspoon ground coriander

a large piknch of ground cummin

1 small egg

oil for frying (preferably coconut)


Combine all the ingredients in a bowl and mix well.

Shape ito small patties and shallow fry, turning once, until brown on both sides.

Rempah can be served with Nasi Kuning or with a salad

Nasi Kuning (Yellow Rice)

Cook eight ounces long grain rice until the water is absorbed

In another pan, bring to the boil a tin of coconut milk and one teaspoon of turmeric.

Add to the half-cooked rice and cook uncovered over a very low heat until the liquid has evaporated (about 30 minutes)
